This project began with 1 pretty loose concept: skiing. I clearly have an infatuation with skiing and have taken countless photos of the sport through the years. I wanted to use my new learned skills from Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to as a new flare to the pictures that I have taken. Once I began working on any of my pieces, I would get lost in the program and I would see myself adding different effects and new ideas to each original picture that I hoped would let my creativity shine through and give the viewer a better understanding of what skiing means to me. “Explore the Unknown'' was a common motif that showed up across all of my pieces. This started when I put it on one of my pieces and I slowly found a way to add it to every piece. This quote means a lot to me especially in regards to skiing. It is about the mentality that you have to have skiing and how you need to explore what is unknown if you want to get better. This means both physical exploration as well as mind exploration to find the courage/drive to do something that may seem impossible/crazy. Space was a heavy influence across the Zine as well. This was supposed to show how when I am skiing, I feel completely detached from the world and I am in “my own world.” This is why all of the space backgrounds were not supposed to resemble the Earth, and the one that did resemble the earth, was mirrored toi show that it is different. I wanted the commonalities of “explore the unknown” and of space to show that to me, skiing is its own art form that has a profound effect upon my creativity and my curious mentality. I hoped that the viewer was able to grasp this ideology and that inspired them to view skiing as a way to explore yourself.
